Open Source tool speeds CAN bus related developments

November 02, 2011 | Christoph Hammerschmidt | 222901885
Open Source tool speeds CAN bus related developments Software tool vendor ETAS GmbH and Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions have launched a free-of-cost open-source software for design, monitoring, analyzing and simulation of CAN bus systems. The 'Busmaster' software aims at deployment in the automotive as well as automation equipment industry.

The Busmaster project is open to contributions from industry and research groups, ETAS said. Thus, designers and developers can add new functions to the Busmaster platform and to further develop the software. As usual in open source projects, the software has been developed and can be administered by means of free software products such as Microsoft Visual Studio Express.

The openness of the project enables interested engineers and other users to flexibly change and enhance the software with respect to bus systems, protocols and hardware interfaces. In addition, it helps to speed the further development of the software.

The Busmaster software has been developed by Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions (RBEI). ETAS contributes with supporting measures including engineering services, adaptation, and training. The software can be downloaded from http://rbei-etas.github.com/busmaster/
